Hi All,

Some drum modules have this feature where you can choke the open high hat sound with a closed high hat trigger. Is this possible with Hydrogen? Neither the Ultra Accoustic nor the Yamaha vintage kit seems to do this.

Thanks.

Unfortunately, I don’t think this has been implemented in Hydrogen yet. There is one way of getting a similar result in Hydrogen but is pretty painful. What you need to do is copy you open hi-hat instrument to a different channel then play around with the instrument editor - there are a few knobs there like compression sustain and that sort of stuff. One of those knobs allows you to cut the sound short - you’ll have to play with this to get the right timing and then insert it into your song when you need it.

I suggest you recommend your feature to the guys from Hydrogen by posting in their forum or better by sending them an email. Thanks for the feedback - I hope you come right.

Later,
Brian

High-hat choking is a feature in the latest versions of Hydrogen i.e. the SVN “unstable” versions.

I’ve been using version 0.94beta2 for a little while now (possible getting on for nearly a year) and have not had any major problems with it that I can recall (YMMV). It’s allowed me to finally make real use of the hi-hat, yay!

DEB files for installation are available from Sourceforge under 0.94 binaries.

Hey Quirq,

I’m so glad to hear they have added this feature. Hi-hat choking really adds a lot to a track. Thanks for the heads up.

Later,
Brian
