Post Which Hydrogen Drum kit is the Best?

I’ve been working with Hydrogen for a while now, and I must say it is one of my favourite programs. However, it will only ever be as good as the drum kit used.

My all-time favourite was obviously the UltraAcousticKit. Unfortunately, this kit was made using proprietry sounds and is hence not free. So I typically resort to the YamahaVintageKit which can be used to get some cool sounds if combined with the right effects.

Which do you feel is the best Hydrogen drum kit?

For Metal/Rock i found the GSCW-1/GSCW-2 Drumkits (http://www.autodafe.net/gscw-drum-kit-for-hydrogen-drum-machine.html). I love those samples… up to 16 different layers per sample :)

e: I’m using the GSCW-2 kit!

Though I haven’t heard all of them yet, I think the deathmetal-drumkit sounds killer! The snares aren’t the best, but good kick drum, crash, splash, and china cymbals, decent hats and rides. I can’t seem to find any kits that have a cymbal grab on it. You can make it yourself in Hydrogen but it sounds pretty weak. Any ideas?

Also Lukrop, where did you get the GSCW-1/GSCW-2 kits? They are not on the Hydrogen kit page.

Never mind. I found the two GSCW kits. Also solved my other problem, since the GSCW-2 kit has 14″ and 18″ cymbal chokes. Between these two kits and the deathmetal kit, you can make really good sounding metal drums.

Hey Bruinsfan,

Thanks for the input. Sorry, I you didn’t get an answer when you needed it but I’m glad you came right. So have you changed your mind - are the GSCW kits the best inn your opinion?

Brian

Not F/OSS solutions… but I got the Natural Studio NS7 kit when that was still freely available and found it to be pretty good. These days it’s called NDK Natural Drum Kit (http://www.naturaldrum.com/) and is payware (USD 129). To be fair, there was always a payware version and I think it was a higher bitrate and possibly had more samples. The free version suited me fine for a while though.

However, earlier this year I bought Native Instruments’ Battery Studio Drums (http://www.native-instruments.com/index.php?id=studiodrums) — the sound sets are designed for NI’s Battery drum sampler and other samplers, but it contains wav files as well, which is what I use with Hydrogen. They sound fantastic and I’ve built a “perfect kit” using bits and pieces from the various kits that are sampled.

I can’t get any of the links to work on this forum.

However, here is the link for the GSCW drum kits (in it’s literal form)…

http://www.autodafe.net/gscw-drum-kit-for-hydrogen-drum-machine.html

From my brief exposure to them last night, I have to say that I prefer this set over all others I have heard including UltraAcousticKit.

Thanks, Scott.

I have fixed the links.
